A GOOD LITERARY AGENT IS...

Publish or Perish Agency logo

No doubt if you’ve made it to this page you have an idea for a book. Now what? Getting a book published is a daunting process. As a professional in the publishing industry for thirty plus years I’ve seen many books come and go, many authors' careers rise and fall, technologies change, markets shift booksellers and publishers go in and out of business; enough to teach a course on the history of modern publishing.

If you read my “About Us” page you will have learned lessons one and two: as a writer you should concentrate on your content, creativity and style and let a professional insider manage the process and the business for you. The most successful relationships between writer and an editor are based on creative energy.

Publishing is a close knit, entertainment business. And like many of the entertainment industries having connections helps to pave the path to success. That is what a literary agent is – your connection. But a good literary agent should know more than just how to negotiate a contract. He should be able to explain to you, and manage, all of the business nuances as well as the ever-changing tenor of the industry in a frank and forthright manner. Only by acting as your business manager can you achieve your expectations as a writer.

NONFICTION: History, Politics and Current Events, Memoir, Business, Health, Sports, Consumerism, Popular Culture Humor, Novelty, Cooking, and Sociology and Books for Teens and Young Readers.

FICTION: Literary, Historical, Suspense, Contemporary, Thrillers, Humor, Mystery.

These are my fortés, but I am not limiting any genre at this time. If your genre is not listed here, do not fear. I will either know where to go or I will tell you honestly if I cannot help you. I can say that I am a bit more restrictive when it comes to science fiction, paranormal, fantasy or religious fiction.

I have seen the industry through the eyes of authors, as a bookseller and as a sales director to numerous publishing houses. One advantage of being in the industry as long as I have been is that I am happy to say I have many friends in the business, both with the halls of publishing houses and in frontline, and online, bookselling. I have introduced many writers to editors who are now happily published. Information about sending queries or manuscripts can be found on the submissions page.
